Of course, there's a lot of shopping to be done during the sales week, too. When it comes to Black Friday in particular, many of the best deals are on your favorite stuff—read: stuff you don't have in your home already. That means more packages coming in (and coming out) than ever before.

To make sure you get the most out of the (mostly) great offers, we're starting by giving you some shopping rules and instructions that will hopefully save you the hassle of going back and forth to buy something because you didn't read the fine print.

When to Shop

The best days for shopping are generally on the weekend, especially on Black Friday, which falls on a Friday this year. The crowds are lighter, and there are less lines. If you're really rushing to get the item you want (and can't wait to get it), on-line is probably the way to go.

Avoid The Lines

If you have the money, don't. Avoid the lines by being willing to wait in a line that's long enough to satisfy the majority of the people in it—and bring cash. Bring enough cash to pay for the items you want.

These lines, of course, are being staffed by individuals who have no interest in dealing with people who are just trying to get out of the way. You have to wait. And you should.

Don't Get Overwhelmed

If you are going to stand in a line, try to stay organized with a gameplan so you don't have a million things to do when you get to the front. If you're on a specific list, take a quick walk down that list. (Remember, they're not there just for show—that's actually how Black Friday gets started).

Stay Positive

This is the week to tell yourself, "I'm lucky to be here. And I'm lucky I got a good deal!" That may sound like a cliche, but it's true. Be grateful, be generous, and enjoy your time in line. It's a break from the rest of the year!
